The short version

Fieldbench has no account system. The desktop app never phones home. Telemetry is off by default. The only data that ever leaves your machine is what you explicitly send by pressing an AI button — and the AI is optional.

What we collect when you buy

Checkout is processed by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd) as merchant of record. Paddle collects your email, country and payment details to process the transaction, handle VAT/sales tax and issue your invoice — see Paddle's privacy policy. We receive and store: your email address, your license key, and (once you activate) the machine codes your key is bound to. A machine code is a one-way hash of a hardware identifier — it cannot be reversed into anything about your PC.

What the desktop app sends

• Nothing, by default. Capture, decoding, charts, exports and licensing all run locally. After activation there is no phone-home license validation of any kind.
• Online activation (optional): pressing Activate sends your key and machine code to our activation endpoint and returns a signed activation file. The fully offline path never makes this request from the target machine.
• AI assistant (optional): only when you press Explain or Extract does the app send the selected frames, your connection parameters and a ~20-frame summary of surrounding traffic (or the screenshot you pasted) to the AI gateway. Requests are used to answer you and count quota; frame content is not stored on the gateway. A first-use dialog shows exactly what is sent, and Settings has a live preview.

What this website collects

Server logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) kept briefly for abuse prevention and debugging. No advertising trackers, no analytics cookies. The free tools on /tools compute entirely in your browser — nothing you paste there is transmitted.

Data retention & your rights

License records are kept for as long as the license is valid so we can re-issue activation files and manage device slots. Email [email protected] to access, correct or delete your data (deleting a license record voids the license).
